Windows Security for $1 Per Month
A dollar. One buck. One hundred cents. No matter how you say it, $1 doesn’t buy much these days. But apparently it can buy you security software for your Windows PC.
CyberDefender, a startup in Los Angeles, Calif., is charging $1 per user per month for a software suite that combats viruses, worms, spam, phishing and other security threats. You can also download a free, advertising-based version of the product.
The VAR Guy hasn’t tried the suite yet. And he’s reminded of the old line “you get what you pay for.” Still, CyberDefender’s management has extensive experience launching PC utilities.
It’s too early to discuss CyberDefender’s channel strategy. In fact, you might say that they don’t have one yet. Instead, CyberDefender is adopting the Skype business model: Get it deployed everywhere first, and worry about applications that drive revenue at a later date.
