Forget Vista, Focus on SharePoint
Microsoft is making numerous moves at this weeks HIMSS conference in New Orleans. The VAR Guy thinks the most interesting initiatives involve SharePoint.
First, the big picture: Microsoft has acquired a search company that focuses on healthcare, launched a healthcare solutions portal and continues to promote SharePoint as an effective content management system for healthcare organizations.
Now, the SharePoint perspective: The VAR Guy thinks SharePoint is a killer application for today’s solutions providers. Much like Novell NetWare in the early 1990s, SharePoint is popping up on departmental servers across the country because businesses need a simply way to manage content. Now, for the problem: Many of those SharePoint deployments are isolated islands. Businesses need VARs to organize all of those SharePoint systems into true enterprise solutions.
Skeptical? During executive round tables throughout 2006, dozens—yes, dozens—of CIOs from across the country told The VAR Guy that they were making the SharePoint move but needed integration help.
Sharept is everywhere but can you really make money from it?
Opportunities surrounding SharePoint range from infrastructure to development, and IT training through end user soft skills. While SharePoint deployments might very unique from client to client, they all grow over time, creating even more opportunity.
There’s nothing quite like it!!!
