The VAR Guy scratched his head in confusion when he heard about Microsoft’s new partnership with CompUSA. The retailer hasn’t exactly been setting the world on fire lately. You might even say the company is going down in flames as it closes stores across the country.

Microsoft’s decision to partner with a struggling retailer shows just how competitive the small business market has become. The OnForce online marketplace, BestBuy’s Geek Squad and Circuit City’s Firedog service are among the best-known brands for consumer and small business IT support. Yet Microsoft is partnering with a retailer that has a less-than-stellar reputation among IT buyers.
