Cisco Responds (Indirectly) to CRN Wish List
First, the requests. Computer Reseller News says Cisco VARs want:
Seems like Computer Reseller News has either found or stumbled onto a story here at the Cisco Partner Summit in Las Vegas. The legacy channel newspaper, er, magazine, on April 2 posted a quick story on its Web site, offering a wish list from partners to Cisco. The list included three requests. The VAR Guy hears Cisco will fulfill at least one of those requests today. Which one you ask? Read on.
First, the requests. Computer Reseller News says Cisco VARs want:
- More small business products
- More market-development and training funds now
- Clarification on requirements for specialization
Now, The VAR Guy’s analysis: It’s highly likely Cisco will respond to at least one–or more–of those requests today. Sorry, The VAR Guy can’t say which one is likely on the agenda for today. A trusted source would never forgive The VAR Guy if he opened his mouth right now. But here’s a shameless hint from Cisco’s Web site.
For info about market development funds and training, check out this blog entry, which provides some clues about Cisco’s direction. Also, when it comes to training, keep the word “virtual” in mind. The VAR Guy is hearing the term over here at the conference. The WebEx acquisition hasn’t closed yet, but you can safely bet (hey, we’re in Vegas…) that it will become a training platform for Cisco VARs.
Oops. Almost time for breakfast. Got to run. Back online with more perspective shortly.
I just read the CRN story. I agree with their analysis. Too bad it took CRN 1000 words to write what VAR Guy said in three bullet points.
In the interest of full disclosure, I know The VAR Guy from one of his previous jobs. So yes, I’m biased.
