Is the Managed Security Market Saturated?
The market for secure managed services is filling up quickly. The latest entrant is Kaseya, with plenty of new rivals surfacing soon. VARs could have a tricky time picking and choosing between all the options.
Kaseya already offers a platform that allows VARs to monitor and manage customer networks for a monthly fee. Kaseya is now extending the platform to include an end point security module. The module includes anti-virus and anti-spyware capabilities, along with centralized management and executive reporting features. Kaseya has also introduced back-up and disaster recovery capabilities to its management platform.
Plenty of readers already use Kaseya’s tools and services. Most of the early adopters include VARs that are striving to become managed service providers.
Looking ahead, the Kaseya platform will faced heightened competition. McAfee, Symantec, Trend Micro and other established security software companies are introducing managed services platforms. And former dot-com companies such as Jamkracker now offer managed security services as well.
It’s going to be a crowded market at least through 2007, with a possible shakeout coming toward the end of 2008, The VAR Guy predicts.
