Thanks for All the Fish
One day near the end of 2008, I walked across the snowy campus at Fordham University to drop off an application to write a technology column for Fordham’s weekly newspaper, The Ram. After I got the job, a close friend of mine told me it was “the beginning of the rest of your life.” I didn’t believe it.
Fast forward to the fall of 2009, and Nine Lives Media picked up yours truly — a budding blogger stuck at an IT help desk. The rest is history. And although this marks my last blog at The VAR Guy, the story isn’t over. So here’s a “thank you” to everyone who has made my time here so wonderful …
First and foremost, I want to thank all the readers. If you’ve become familiar with me you undoubtedly know I have no shame when it comes to admitting my love for all things Apple. Thanks for putting up with all that, but I know you’re all secretly Apple fans. I also want to extend my gratitude to all the vendors and partners I had the pleasure of meeting, greeting and visiting, from Las Vegas to Orlando and everywhere in between.
But my deepest thanks go to the people who made this all possible, Amy Katz and Joe Panettieri. Amy Katz, president of Nine Lives Media, was the first person professionally to help me reel in the abuse of the exclamation point. It was duly noted and is now regularly applied. Joe Panettieri, editorial director and all-around great guy, offered a baptism-by-fire crash-course in the channel, which worked out perfectly.
I also want to thank editor and blogger Charlene O’Hanlon for her endless cheer and always laughing at my jokes, even if she removed them from time to time. And an extra special thanks goes to fellow bloggers Matt Weinberger and Nicholas Mukhar — without them, there would have been no true blogging team to collaborate (and commiserate) with. And last, but most certainly not least, I want to thank The VAR Guy. This mysterious enigma of a man has given me the one of the best things of all: the opportunity to don his fedora and blog. You will all be missed.
Before I close, consider the following: The channel is replete with opportunity, you just have to reach out and grab it. Don’t let the legacy of old technology prevent the jump to new ones. Always evolve, always adapt and always look toward the horizon. The channel is the engine building out the foundation for the future and that’s simply marvelous.
It’s been an honor and a pleasure. Thank you all.
Dave – We’ll be waiting for you at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Your deleted jokes will be there, too. — Charlene
Sorry to see you go, Dave — even if you are a self-acknowledged Apple fanboy. Best of luck in the future.
