Earthlink to Trial Covad LPVA
Show sponsor Covad Communications Group Inc. (Booths 506-508) announces Earthlink (Booth 813) will begin its trial of the Covad Line-Powered Voice Access service next month in Dallas, San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle.
Covads line-powered voice access unites the last mile of traditional telephone copper wiring with the features of VoIP by taking advantage of the next-generation DSLAM technology that will enable Covad to offer higher-speed broadband access (ADSL 2+, G.SHDSL) and new business-class services such as metro Ethernet and bonded T1.
LPVA is a VoIP-based replacement for traditional phone service that does not require a broadband connection or additional consumer premise equipment. Customers use their existing analog phone equipment and in-house jack. As with traditional voice service, the line is powered from the CO, so a power failure will not disrupt service.
Covad will offer this service on a wholesale basis to Earthlink and other competitive service providers around the country.
