VMware, Mirantis Partner on OpenStack, Virtualization Integration
Mirantis, a top OpenStack consulting firm and integrator, is partnering closely with VMware (VMW). The two companies will connect the dots between OpenStack, vSphere Server and NSX. The VMware-Mirantis relationship once and for all shatters the myth that OpenStack is a replacement for VMware’s technology.
OpenStack is an open source cloud technology but it can work with a range of hypervisors — including KVM (kernel-based virtual machine) and increasingly VMware.
An OpenStack Summit this week in Asia triggered a flood of news but many customers are still seeking channel partners and IT consultants to assist with OpenStack-related private and public cloud deployments. Plus, many customers want to more fully understand how OpenStack can potentially work with existing VMware virtual machines.
That’s where Mirantis enters the picture. The company is perhaps the most widely known and respected channel partner deploying OpenStack private and public clouds for customers.
Mirantis also pioneered Fuel, an open source tool that eases OpenStack deployments and management. Going forward, Fuel will add support for automating Mirantis OpenStack distribution deployments conjunction with VMware vCenter Server and VMware NSX technologies.
