VMware Hires Citrix Desktop Virtualization Experts
VMware (VMW) has hired two Citrix Systems (CTXS) veterans to further bolster the company’s desktop as a service (DaaS) and end-user computing (EUC) initiatives. The hires arrive only a few weeks before VMware Partner Exchange 2014 — a Top 100 Technology Event — kicks off in San Francisco.
The recent VMware hires include:
- Bob Schultz, chif strategy lead, EUC. He was previously group VP and GM of Desktop and Applications for Citrix.
- Sumit Dhawan, leading the desktop business and organization. He was previously group VP and GM for enterprise mobility at Citrix.
Also of note: VMware veteran Kit Colbert was promoted to CTO for EUC. Sanjay Poonen, executive VP and GM of End User Computing at VMware, announced the moves in a Jan. 6 blog.
VMware’s EUC push has accelerated in recent months. The company acquired Desktone, owner of the DaaS trademark, in October. It’s clear the EUC push will take center stage at VMware Partner Exchange 2014 (Feb. 8-13, San Francisco).
Among those watching VMware’s moves closely: Toshiba, which has built a hosted desktop service (leveraging VMware Horizon and Citrix) for MSPs. The VAR Guy will also be tracking which VMware cloud service providers get into the DaaS market — perhaps with help from the virtualization giant’s new EUC executives.
