WiMAXimizing Opportunities
The promise of broadband wireless in the access space finally is being fulfilled by WiMAX, a point-to-multipoint, non-line-of-sight metro broadband wireless access technology built on the 802.16 standard.
WiMAX has been hailed as an alternative to landline broadband technologies and as a last-mile option, and while certified products wont be rolling out until the end of the year, dozens of pre-WiMAX solutions and WiMAX-ready solutions for the U.S. market offer solutions providers opportunities to help large customers and even cities with alternative access projects.
Stephen King, managing partner at solutions provider/consultant allConnex LLC, will take Channe Partners attendees through what WiMAX is, the opportunities along the BWA supply chain, and what it takes to learn how to deploy, run, manage and sell the technology. The allConnex team acts as an extension of a customers IT staff, with technology decisions that are well-informed and benchmarked not only between carriers but to competitors IT practices.
One way for partners to succeed in this nascent market is in bundling applications for specific verticals, such as VoIP and video for public safety. A bundle could offer a certain amount of data bandwidth with phone quality chunks that receive higher priority for VoIP. BWA sweet spots are corporate campuses, municipal agencies and educational institutions.
Dont miss todays session on tomorrows technology; with this much opportunity in this many market segments, WiMAX could represent a new, high-value and low-cost revenue stream for solutions providers, VARs and agents alike.
