VMware SDN, SDDC, vCloud Updates Set for VMworld Barcelona
VMware (VMW) is set to update its software defined data center (SDDC) message during VMworld Barcelona (Oct. 14-17). Here are five reasons why U.S.-based customers and partners should tune into the European conversation.
1. Hybrid Cloud: VMware officially launched the vCloud Hybrid Service in early September. How is that service performing so far? VMworld Barcelona will offer new clues.
2. Desktop as a Service: Meet with VMware officials, and you’ll find them accessing all of their desktop applications running in a centralized workspace. Whether it’s a tablet or PC, all the apps run in a secure manner thanks to VMware Horizon. How many customers and partners have embraced DaaS? This conference will offer an update.
3. SDN & SDDC: VMware NSX — based on the Nicira acquisition — is starting to generate buzz within the Software Defined Networking and Software Defined Data Center markets. NSX took center stage during VMworld San Francisco in August. The VAR Guy expects and encore with updates in Barcelona.
4. Pivotal Clues: EMC and VMware are spinning off Pivotal — a platform as a service (PaaS) play led by Paul Maritz. During this week’s Oracle OpenWorld 2013, EMC CEO Joe Tucci re-confirmed that Pivotal will eventually go public. Also, the Pivotal platform is expected to launch in Q4 2013. Dig around VMworld Barcelona and you might find more details about the effort.
5. Partners, Partners, Partners: Oct. 14 is Partner Day. More than VARs, the gathering will include hosting partners, OEMs and Technology Alliance Partners (TAMs). As you may recall, VMware offers cloud credits — which VARs can use when working with VMware hosting partners. How is that partner-to-partner program working out? This gathering should offer updates.
