Coming Soon: Everything 3.0
Well, yet another company (Hewlett-Packard) is rallying around the “2.0” brand. HP today launched a massive “Print 2.0” marketing campaign. Seems like everybody wants a piece of the 2.0 action — Cisco insiders are chatting about Wireless Mesh 2.0; Autotask’s CEO is evangelizing Managed Services 2.0. And there’s more to come…
Who do we blame for all of the “2.0” craze? The VAR Guy deserves a tiny bit of your fury, since he tosses around terms like Partner 2.0 and MSP 2.0 in meetings. And now we’ve got HP hyping Print 2.0.
Most people track the 2.0 moniker back to Tim O’Reilly and Web 2.0. Thanks, Tim. The VAR Guy loves Web 2.0 widgets, social networks, etc. But 2.0 isn’t all good. Anybody else remember Caddy Shack 2.0? Or Windows 2.0? (Here’s a look at that old user interface.)
The VAR Guy thinks the 2.0 craze will run out of steam by January 2008. Anybody else getting ready for 3.0 … or at least 2.1?
