Two HP Acquisitions Could Bolster VARs
Hewlett-Packard, as you may have heard, has acquired thin-client specialist Neoware and data center automation specialist Opsware. The deals could generate incremental sales opportunities for HP’s partners.
No doubt, thin client solutions are gaining more and more interest from customers who are frustrated by management and complexity issues related to traditional PCs. While Neoware hasn’t exactly set the world on fire in recent quarters, the company does have a loyal following in the thin client market.
The VAR Guy’s big question: What does the HP-Neoware combo mean to rival Wyse Technology and its partners? Hmmm. The VAR Guy reached out to Wyse for some thoughts. He’ll let you know if he gets a reply.
Meanwhile, HP has also acquired Opsware–a company founded by Netscape veteran Marc Andreessen. Ironically, The VAR Guy met with Andreessen about a year ago in New York during a CIO round table. The duo listened as Wall Street CIOs described how they need to more effectively manage virtual servers running a mix of Windows and Linux. Hmmm. Sounds like a natural opportunity for VARs working with Opsware going forward.
