Nine Technology's core business as a white-label cloud backup and DR service provider is being augmented by the introduction of a platform for MSPs and data center providers to offer the same on their own infrastructure. The Powered By Nine Platform aims to let the service provider take control of the customer and the back end while maintaining the advantages of Nine's fast and secure storage solutions.
The goal of this offering, according to Nine Technology's press release, is to help the company's MSP partners make the move to cloud services themselves by giving them the tools they need to offer hosted backup and disaster recovery. To that end, the Powered By Nine Platform comes with professional services to help with deployment.
In a prepared statement, Nine Technology CEO Tom Gelson highlighted the total control the platform, which is based on the company's Nine ONE and Nine PRO solutions, gives the provider:
“This new iteration of our industry-leading software is designed specifically for those MSPs and data center managers that want to be in charge of their entire solution, soup to nuts."
I think Gelson actually hits on a major sore spot for many cloud service providers – control of the billing relationship is so important that Microsoft's channel chief Jon Roskill has had to comment on the matter not once, but twice. And TalkinCloud wouldn't be surprised if it came up a third time.
The point: Cloud billing is going to be an important story in 2011, so keep watching TalkinCloud for updates.
