Six Channel Blog Entries The VAR Guy Didn’t Write: Dec. 24
The VAR Guy is trading in latte for Eggnog in a few hours. Turn off the WiFi. Unplug the USB. It’s time for our resident blogger to disappear — at least for a few restful hours. But before he goes, here are six channel blog entries The VAR Guy didn’t write for the week ending Dec. 24, 2009.
7. Apple’s Alleged Tablet: Just about everyone is speculating that Apple will announce some sort of Tablet computer in January 2010. The bigger question on The VAR Guy’s mind: Can consumers afford to buy yet another Apple product after loading up on iPhones, iMacs and MacBooks for the holidays?
6. Lots of Predictions: Software and hardware companies flooded The VAR Guy with 2010 market predictions. The VAR Guy predicts that he won’t blog about all the predictions. Most are empty attempts to attract eyeballs… …
5. Less is More?: The VAR Guy earlier this week speculated about Canonical’s future Ubuntu priorities amid a CEO shift. But CNet’s Matt Asay wonders if Canonical will scale back a few of its Ubuntu business development efforts in order to gain focus.
4. Big Money: Red Hat’s quarterly revenues and profits beat expectations. Again. The VAR Guy admits: He owns a few shares in Red Hat. It seems to be the one open source company that is pushing successfully into multiple markets — either organically or through acquisitions (Linux, JBoss middleware, virtualization). Either way, Red Hat is working more and more with channel partners…
3. April Showdown: Cisco Systems and Juniper apparently plan to host their respective partner conferences the same week in April 2010. That should trigger plenty of fireworks. (Yes, The VAR Guy plans to light a few of them…) But wait, there’s more. Interop apparently is scheduled for that same week as well…
2. Thank You: Our resident blogger appreciates your readership and all the channel chatter you generate on this web site. The VAR Guy thanks you and wishes you a relaxing, safe holiday season. And our resident blogger isn’t unplugging completely. He’s working on a few surprises over the holidays…
1. Check the Headline: If you know The VAR Guy, you know he doesn’t play by the rules. There is no #1 on this list, because it’s a top six list.
I don’t own any Apple products right now. I would buy an iTablet though.
Aikiwolfie: The VAR Guy just picked up an Amazon Kindle. (Thanks to his wife…) But he’d give an iTablet a really close look.
