Spiceworks Adds Free Virtualization Management
Spiceworks, the totally free IT management software provider, has released a new version of their namesake product that brings, among other things, virtualization management capabilities. Here’s some analysis.
Initially, we expressed some skepticism about the Austin-based Spiceworks’ business model. But Spiceworks seems to keep on attracting customers and MSPs with its efforts. The new release comes with the bold claim that 900,000 IT pros and 85,000 MSPs are leveraging their product.
In addition to the aforementioned virtualization management, which the company says is a key tool for SMBs levering VMware products, Spiceworks 4.6 adds network mapping for networks with Cisco WAPs, the ability to remotely kill processes, default installation of the allegedly popular Intel-sponsored Power Management feature, and integrated product search for CDW from within the application.
This release is Spiceworks’ 17th since they opened for business in 2006, so they must be doing something right. Spiceworks’ innovative approach to doing business in the channel has intrigued us enough that you’re sure to hear more about them on MSPmentor in the near future, so stay tuned.
